ABOUT ELEANOR
The root of my fascination with interior design began when I was a child. I watched my parents toil over both serious renovations as well as aesthetic undertakings in our own home, and later as my siblings and I traipsed through countless museums, historic houses, and villages, our parents—one an artist, the other a poet—always pointed out the majesty and beauty around us. As a young student, I worked in various museums in Connecticut, including the quirky but exquisite Victorian homes of Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe, and the Hillstead Museum, owned by one of the first female architects in this country.
I majored in Art History with a minor in Studio Art at Skidmore College and spent my junior year abroad in London. In slides, books, readings, travels, museums, my love of photography blossomed and my infatuation with art and design continued. While abroad, I worked in an art gallery in South London, and in my senior year, I spent a January Term working as an intern at the Daniel Chester French House learning how to correctly clean and restore antique furniture.
After graduation, I began taking design classes at the New York School of Interior Design and worked at a couple of small residential firms before eventually ending up at MAC II. As a design assistant and a member of multi-person design teams, I worked on large scale projects under the tutelage of senior designers, becoming familiar with the design market in New York City and the ins-and-outs of residential interior decoration and design. At MAC II, my focus was on shopping the market for a wide variety of design elements, from large pieces of furniture to small accessories.
My focus as an independent designer now encompass the process from beginning to end: from meeting with clients and coming up with a clear plan for the project—including space planning, floor plans, and elevations—to figuring out what items, colors, patterns, and textures best suit the taste, space, and lifestyle of each client. After these decisions have been made, I oversee the execution of the project, including the placement of orders, all coordination with contractors, and ultimately the final installation.
I believe that as we look towards the future of your home, there should be a nod to the room’s classical proportions and design, and my traditional yet eclectic aesthetic will ensure that your space ages beautifully into future years. My desire as your designer is to aid you in the process of making your house a home: not a showpiece, a museum, or a magazine spread, but rather a place that reflects your sense of style and comfort. From a single piece of furniture, to an entire room, I would love to help you achieve your vision for your home while also meeting your specific needs.
